Your competent partner for wheel- and tyre changes - Smartfit in Peterborough
The change of the wheels or tyres is carried out on a seasonal basis for both passenger cars and commercial vehicles in order to adapt the tyres to the weather conditions. Even though it is not required by law in the UK, in wintery conditions, a corresponding tyre should be mounted to ensure sufficient adhesion in adverse road conditions.
When changing between summer and winter tyres, customers can choose between replacing the complete wheel or changing the tyres. The complete wheel consists essentially of a rim made of aluminium or steel and the wheel disc on which the tyre is mounted. During a tyre change, in contrast to the complete wheel change, only a new tyre is fitted.
In most cases, it is advantageous to have one set of complete wheels for winter and summer. The change of a complete wheel is technically much easier than fitting a new tyre. The investment in two sets of complete wheels pays off, both in terms of time and financially.
In our Smartfit workshop, we are happy to carry out the wheel and tyre changes on your vehicle. Our qualified specialists have many years of experience in changing the complete wheel or fitting new tyres. On request, we also offer numerous other services around the wheel change - not to forget, the extensive range of tyres we have for sale online and directly at our workshop on Welland Road.
From the wheel change to the safety check - our range of services
In our modern extensively equipped workshop, we can carry out wheel and tyre changes professionally with the help of modern technology within the shortest possible time. We have the necessary equipment to automatically set the correct torque when mounting the tyres, thus ensuring maximum safety when driving. Please note that all wheels should be tested for a sufficiently tight fit after around 50 to 100 miles of driving. We are happy to take over this service for you in the workshop.
In addition to the simple assembly and disassembly of complete wheels, our tyre specialists are happy to carry out further services around the wheels. The balancing of the tyres, for example, is included in the price and includes the proper testing of the wheels for imbalance and any necessary correction. An imbalance in the chassis not only leads to higher wear of the wheels but also affects the driving safety and smoothness of the car.
If your vehicle has a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), we ensure the proper functioning of the system as part of the optional TPMS service kit. A final safety check ensures that the wheel and tyre have been properly installed, that they are at the correct pressure level and are firmly seated.
Valuable tips around wheels and tyres
Thanks to our many years of experience in handling complete wheels and tyres, we are happy to give our customers practical tips along the way:
For front-wheel drive vehicles, it is advisable to swap the front and rear tyres seasonally to ensure even tyre wear.
In some cases, it is also advisable to exchange the tyres crossed at the same time. The front tyres are fitted on the same side of the car rear, and the rear tires are mounted on the opposite front.
